Get him to smile!This is Mr. Vitus Kihembweza who weaves cotton yarn with this unique Hand Loom Weaver, he works at the Nyerere Center or formerly Nyumba ya Sanaa/next to the Movenpick Hotel. He built the wooden machine himself, learning the techniques in Tabora Region where it is popular and has a fantastic story to tell of how the Father of the Nation saw the technology in India and attempted to introduce it in our cotton rich country as one ofthe premier technologies when the SIDO(Small Industries Development Organization) was being set up!!
Mr. Vitus is an established Musician from the best Bands of the 60/70s onwards and a theater artist presently with Sisi Tambala. If you did not know it, they are the Worlds Best Traditional Dance Troupe! What! Yap! Tanzania has such talent, if we could only articulate our myopic vision!!
I paid 20.000/= for him to make cloth enough for sewing a shirt requesting him to weave the national colour designs at the edges. Will show you the final product guys!! Go get yourself this pure cotton cloth from the master weaver and fashion your shirt, trousers, kikoi or dress!!
